Art Center holiday hours

Here at the LAC, we hope you had a safe, healthy, and relaxing holiday season. The Lewistown Art Center will be open for regular hours, 12-5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 31, and closed on Friday, Jan. 1 in celebration of the New Year. The Art Center will be open from 12-5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 2. While 2020 has certainly held its share of challenges for our community, we’re looking forward to a 2021 filled with fellowship and creativity. We know we’ll have to be flexible for a while longer, so thank you for your support of our new programs, initiatives, and events.

Small towns and small schools work well for McKenzie Smith

McKenzie Smith has returned to Winnett. The eighth grader attended school in Winnett until the third grade; then went to much larger schools in Bozeman and Big Fork before returning to Winnett last year.

Lester Angus McMillan, 90, passed away Sunday, Dec. 20, 2020 at Valle Vista Manor.

Delores Isabelle Duffner

Delores Isabelle Duffner, 84, passed away peacefully Christmas morning, 2020, with her family at her side. She was born to Leta and Earl McClure on Feb. 19, 1936 in Glasgow, Montana. Delores graduated from Fergus High in 1954 and on Sept. 5 of that year, she married Robert Duffner in Lewistown.

Sarah Arnott Ozment

Sarah Arnott Ozment was born on Nov. 17, 1933 to Florence Heller Utgaard and Sigurd Utgaard, who were living in Anamoose, North Dakota, where Sigurd was superintendent of the Anamoose school. The family lived in several North Dakota towns, including Aneta and Granville, where Sarah graduated from high school. Sarah was a singer and pianist and went to St. Olaf College where she majored in history and music. She sang in the St. Olaf choir and graduated with honors in history. She spent her college summers working at Many Glacier in Glacier National Park and loved Montana. After college she moved to Lewistown, where she taught vocal music in the Lewistown junior high school and supervised music in K through 12. Because of voice problems, she had to abandon full time teaching and started law school on scholarship at the University of Chicago in 1957.

Winter calls for special care of houseplants

Holidays are filled with new plants and decorations that often find our houseplants relegated to any out of the way available space. Be sure to keep your houseplants looking their best with proper winter care.

New Community Council and Planning Board members approved

The Fergus County Community Council gained a new member Thursday when the County commissioners voted to appoint Kurt McCauley to the Council. McCauley, who was a runner up in the prior election, will fill the unexpired portion of the late Jo Shipman’s term for District 3. Clerk and Recorder Rana Wichman said McCauley had contacted her to express interest when he heard there was an opening. The commissioners unanimously approved his appointment, through Dec. 31, 2022.
