Regenerative farming and ranching pioneer Gabe Brown addressed a packed building April 19 at the fairgrounds in Big Timber regarding the importance of soil health and regenerative agriculture practices.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is seeking public comment on proposals for mountain lion quotas and special limited licenses, trumpeter swan reintroductions, new Rainbow Lake fishing regulations, and pheasant releases.

Lewistown Junior High students compete in Mathcounts competition

This year the Mathcounts chapter competitions were online again for the whole Mathcounts nation. Everyone in the nation took the test on Feb. 24 and had to be monitored by an adult to verify there was no deception on the part of the students. We did compete against our specific chapters, of which ours is based out of Billings. Part of the fun for the kids is to go to Billings, be on campus and eat their lunch in the college cafeteria, to experience a taste of the campus life. So, when we heard that the state competition was going to be in person we were super excited.

Portland Cello Project brings variety of music to Lewistown

Stone City Productions hosted The Portland Cello Project this last Saturday April 16 at Jack’s Hangar for a night that is sure to be remembered by those who braved the spring snowstorm to watch this one of-a-kind show. Harmonies in the Hangar with The Portland Cello Project featured artists Lauren McShane (cello), Diane Chaplin (cello), Skip Vonkuske (cello), Kevin Jackson (cello), Tyrone Hendrix (drums), JP Downer (bass), Alex Milsted (keyboards, guitar, and keytar), Farnell Newton (trumpet), and vocals by JANE.

Montana Stockgrowers Association develops leadership program

Montana Stockgrowers Association has launched the M Bar Academy, a premier leadership program. The 18-month program is designed to grow and develop leadership skills for individuals who are active in Montana’s ranching industry. The inaugural class will convene in June and meet in different locations throughout Montana during the course of the program.

Just over year into her tenure as Fergus County’s Prevention Specialist, McKenzie Morgan has worked with seemingly every organization in town. A partial list of the groups she’s been involved with includes the DUI Task Force, Kiwanis Club, Central Montana Coalition for Family Health, T.O.R.C.H, the Lewistown Downtown Association, and the Human Services Coalition.

On Feb. 15, a National Geographic Expedition ship looked out on Elephant Island off the coast of Antarctica in the Southern Ocean. The island is famous for hosting 22 members of Ernest Shackleton’s Endurance expedition for four months in 1916 while the Antarctic explorer made an 800-mile trek for help. The crew had been attempting to complete the first land crossing of the Antarctic continent when their ship, Endurance, became stuck in pack ice for 10 months before sinking.
