Did you know stroke is the leading cause of disability in the U.S.? It’s also the fifth leading cause of death, according to the American Stroke Association. The ASA is hoping to change those statistics through education, especially this month, as May is Stroke Awareness month.
Every year close to 800,000 Americans have a stroke, which occurs when blood flow to the brain is blocked. Depending on the type of stroke, severity and which part of the brain is affected, those who survive will be affected differently. But one thing is clear: recovery means hard work.
