Sam Short had no idea he was about to create a legacy when he set out in the early 70s to develop a workshop for teaching range management. But, 43 years later, Montana Range Days is flourishing, thanks, in part, to Sam’s vision.
Originally from South Dakota, Short studied range management during a college career that was interrupted by service in the Korean War. After college, the urge to see some new country struck, and Short headed west to Montana, signing on with the Soil Conservation Service as a range specialist and ending up in Lewistown.
