2017 Montana Cowboy Poetry Gathering sets the bar

If you tried to book a motel room during Aug.17-20, or noticed a full parking lot at Fergus High School, Gathering Day Headquarters Friday and Saturday, you’d know cowboy poets, western musicians and American cowboy history buffs converged in our beautiful little high plains town for the Montana Cowboy Poetry’s gathering.

This year’s Montana Cowboy Poetry Gathering was a resounding success, and set the bar even higher than previous years. Dave Stamey’s grand stage show Saturday night was full at the Fergus Center for the Performing Arts. The Thursday “Welcome BBQ” at Jack’s Hanger sold out. The Charlie Russell Chew Choo dinner train Friday night also sold out. The Judith Mountain Players play Saturday afternoon drew a crowd of over 400. The gathering ran out of 600 day-pin passes. Cowboy Church at Celebration Fellowship Church Sunday morning was standing room only. Over 30 western wear and food vendors went home happy with their sales. Sales were also brisk all weekend in the consignment bookstore, where CDs and books by the performers were handsomely displayed.

It may be over, but already people are requesting tickets for headlining act Suzy Boggus at the 33rd Gathering next summer. Watch for updates at MontanaCowboyPoetryGathering.com.

Quite simply, Montana Cowboy Poetry performers and attendees love the natural beauty of our town, our historic Main Street, friendly shops and restaurants. It’s always a goal of the Cowboy Poetry organizers to showcase Lewistown and bring visitors to our Main Street for the economic benefit of all.
