Anna M. (Billy) Irish



Anna M. (Billy) Irish, 95, of Lewistown died Wednesday morning, Dec. 20, 2017 in the Central Montana Medical Center of natural causes. She was born Jan. 26, 1922 in Lewistown, the daughter of Frank and Martha (Hruska) Matejcek. 

She received her education in Lewistown graduating from Fergus County High School in 1939.She then attended and completed Normal School in Great Falls and received her teaching certificate. She returned to the Lewistown area and taught at the Upper Cottonwood Creek School until her marriage on March 1, 1942 to Alden E. Irish, Sr.  

She raised her children and worked on the ranch with her husband until 1960, when she began teaching again at the Upper Cottonwood Creek School.  

In 1968 they moved to Washington where she taught school at Marysville until they retired in 1981, and moved to Livingston, Montana. In 1987 they returned to Lewistown where they lived until his death in 2003. She has continued to make her home in Lewistown until the time of her death.

Billy’s priority was always family first; she loved being a farmwife, her flower garden, sewing and crocheting.

She is survived by her sons Alden E. Irish, Jr. of Lewistown and William (Lynn) Irish of Bozeman; daughter Judith Wentworth of Denver, Colorado; 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Ted.

Memorial Services for Anna M. (Billy) Irish will be Friday, Dec. 29, 2017 at 11 a.m. in St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Vigil Services will be Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017 at 7 p.m. in St Leo’s Catholic Church with committal to be in the Beaver Creek Cemetery at a later date. The Cloyd Funeral Home is assisting the family.
