In the Wilkins Gallery

Throughout the month of December, the landscape paintings of Carol Novotne will be on display in a show titled “Capturing the Big Sky.” Carol and her husband Roger reside in Helena, but Roger grew up in Lewistown, so both of them have a great fondness for our town and the incredible landscape here. We thank Dave Sather for sponsoring this show.

Trunk show in January, Montana Winter fair

Back for her fourth visit will be Paula Halvorson who sponsors the felted artwork from women artisans of Kyrgyzstan. Halvorson has been working with women in Central Asia for over 10 years, selling at fiber arts festivals, trunk shows and special exhibitions. The stylish hats, scarves and slippers compliment the Montana lifestyle being warm, practical and yet fashionable. The topography and climate of Kyrgyzstan and Montana are identical making the fashion items suitable for our weather and the outdoor lifestyle both places share.

Featured artists in the gift shop

After a very long wait, we have pottery by Billings’ artist Teresa Gong. Her work is reminiscent of M.C. Escher, with his wood engravings and lithographs. Gong’s slip-carved pieces have a rhythmic patterning with subject matter ranging from botanical specimens to birds and butterflies. She is a master at her craft.

Also, after a lot of persuading, we have the latest metal horse sculptures by Bill Ryder. With a skyrocketing demand for his pieces, we are thrilled to have a handsome trio in our front window. Take a look when you are passing by.
