Winter fair

The Montana Winter Fair is almost here. As part of this long-standing tradition, the Lewistown Art Center will once again be host to the Fiber Arts Exhibition and workshop series. Fiber entries are due by Jan. 13 at the Art Center, and quilt entries can be brought to the Sew Pieceful shop downtown on or before Jan. 19. First place prizes will be awarded in every class, as well as a grand prize for Best in Show. Come see the talent and creativity of Central Montana’s many fabric artists for yourself, on display at the Art Center Jan. 24 through Feb. 11.

Winter Fair weekend will be a bustling celebration of fabric and fiber at the gallery as well. Join us Jan. 27 – 28 for incredible displays and demonstrations of weaving, felting, knitting and more. If you’d like to brush up on your own fabric skills, hands-on workshops will also be offered. Master quilter Shauna Crawford will lead Art Quilting and Fabric Embellishing Jan. 27 (11 a.m.–5 p.m.) and Jan. 28 (1–5 p.m.). Participants are invited to attend one or both days. And for the felters out there, local artist Jane Lund will host a needle felting class Jan. 28 from 9 a.m.–1 p.m. Call or stop by the Art Center to register.

Fiber arts trunk show

On Saturday, Jan 28, fiber arts will not only be represented by local artist but by craftspeople from Kyrgyzstan and South American countries as well. Please join us once again in welcoming Paula Halvorson’s vibrant display of handcrafted wearable items and home décor, created using traditional techniques of the artisans’ native lands. This will be a vibrant show of masterfully crafted pieces, and a great chance to explore fiber artists’ unique heritage around the world.

Wilkins Gallery exhibition

Stop by the Wilkins Gallery Feb. 23 – March 31 and see the stunning photography of Montana’s own Larry Blackwood. Blackwood is an internationally acclaimed, self-taught photographer with more than 40 years of experience. Please join us the evening of Friday, Feb. 24 for a gallery reception as well and help welcome this fine artist to our community.

Hands On Art

After school art is back in session! Hands On Art classes pick back up the second week in January. We have activities and programs for K – Sixth grade, designed to let kids’s creativity shine. This semester we’ll focus on collaborative projects, new multi-media techniques, and making the most of our in-house ceramics classroom, the Ken Edwards Clay Studio. All skill levels are welcome. Visit us at lewistownartcenter.net for class information, bus schedules and more.

Adult education

We are very excited to announce that January will bring the first of our newest offering for adults, Social Night at the Art Center. Everyone is invited to join in the fun, regardless of artistic ability. This month we’ll be leading a “Sip and Paint” party, and all participants will leave with their very own 16 x 20” acrylic landscape painting. All materials and instruction will be provided, as well as light appetizers. Bottles of wine or bubbly are encouraged. Space is limited so register soon. Call us at 535-8278, stop by the Art Center downtown, or visit us online for more information.
