Art Center Happenings

January’s Social Night event was a great success. A fun and energetic group gathered at the Art Center classroom to try their hand at acrylic painting, and discovered that you don’t need to be a professional artist to have fun making art.

Quilt and Fiber Art Exhibition, Jan. 24 - Feb. 11

The Wilkins Gallery is filled to capacity with superior quality entries for the Montana Winter Fair. Combining traditional techniques and patterns along with contemporary points of view, Central Montana fiber artists have come together to create one of the most dynamic shows to be on view for many years. Demonstrations of spinning, weaving and other fiber arts will take place this Friday and Saturday. This is an incredibly special event supported by a community that is heavily committed to the Fiber Arts.

Free Trade International Trunk Show, Jan. 28

Paula Halvorson from Helena will make an encore visit to Lewistown to show the latest collection of felted items and other fabric pieces of artwork, primarily from artisans from Kyrgyzstan. Each piece is exquisitely and professionally executed in traditional techniques with rich color palettes that compliment current fashion and décor trends. Halvorson has met with and supports the artists with the worthiest cause of promoting artistic and financial freedom internationally.

In the Wilkins Gallery

Larry Blackwood is a highly sought after and published photographer in the United States. He just happens to live in Bozeman and will be bringing an incredible collection of elevator images, titled “Elevations.” The subject matter will resonate with our Central Montana community, and his skillful eye behind the lens will illuminate rare and historic symbols of our past. Join us for an artist’s reception on Friday, Feb. 24, from 5-7 p.m.

We thank Larry and Kathi Carrell for sponsoring this show. It will remain on display until the end of March.
