Opening reception: Gesine Janzen in the Wilkins Gallery
Join the Lewistown Art Center on Friday, April 7 from 5-7 p.m. in welcoming Gesine Janzen and her exhibition, “Ancestral Landscapes and Rivers.” Janzen is an Associate Professor of Art at MSU in Bozeman, and we’re fortunate to host a nationally recognized printmaker and educator in the Wilkins Gallery. Come experience these subtle, moving prints that deal with our nearby Missouri River, as well as images that reflect the artist’s history near the Baltic Coast. These works are touching and abstract, and are sure to evoke responses from central Montanans as we consider the emotional resonance of the landscapes around us.
Gesine Janzen’s monotypes and wood block prints will remain on display in the Wilkins Gallery until April 29. The Lewistown Art Center thanks Vickey, Bill and Brandon Cowen for their generous sponsorship of this month’s exhibition.

Social Night at the Art Center
Are you looking for a fun evening out? Do you enjoy new and old friends, dabbling in creativity, and learning new skills? Come on down to the Lewistown Art Center on the third Wednesday of every month for Social Night at the Art Center (SNAC). Social Night provides an evening filled with fun and inspiration as instructors help participants make an original, finished artwork, surrounded by friends, snacks and maybe a glass of wine.
Join us on April 19 in the Ken Edwards Clay Studio (in the basement of the Art Center), as ceramicist and new assistant director Mary Callahan Baumstark helps you glaze and fire your own piece of finished pottery. Prices are dependent on the piece of pottery, and we’ll have a variety of mugs, bowls, plates and wine glasses to choose from. Whether you’re looking for a great gift, a new piece for your cupboard, or are interested in testing the ceramic waters, Social Night is an excellent opportunity.
Social Night begins at 6:30 and light appetizers are provided. Bring along your favorite beverage, and register early by calling the Art Center at 535-8278. These are popular events and fill up quickly. Visit us online at to learn more about upcoming Social Nights. See you there.

Bob Ross landscape painting
Whether on PBS or Netflix, puffy haired and eternally reassuring Bob Ross has inspired amateur artists to create amazing and detailed landscapes. Join Don Dixson of Stanford, Montana, a certified Bob Ross instructor, on April 29, for an all-day painting workshop. Using simple tools and a wet-on-wet oil painting technique (just like Bob), participants will bring a canvas to life, inspired by the dramatic landscapes of central Montana. Come make some “happy little clouds” with us. Register online or call the Lewistown Art Center for more information.

Thirty-second annual Montana Watercolor Society members’ show
From May 1-31, the Lewistown Art Center is excited to welcome back the members of the Montana Watercolor Society for their popular, annual Members Exhibit. In addition to showcasing some of Montana’s finest watercolor talent, Whitefish artist Gretchen Finch will host a two-day workshop. Finch received her BFA from the University of Arizona, and has lived and painted in the West for years. An experienced landscape painter, Gretchen considers watercolor paintings to be “neither relaxing nor is it a hobby. It’s hard work and it’s my passion.” This workshop is open to members of the Lewistown Art Center (join us) and scholarships are available for interested candidates. Contact the Lewistown Art Center for additional information.
