Holiday hours

What a season it has been! We’re so grateful for the Central Montana community’s support of the Art Center, and for our event, WinterSongs: thank you.

We will be open this week Wednesday, Dec. 27 through Saturday, Dec. 30, with reduced hours from 12-4 p.m.

We will be closed Jan. 1–22, and re-open on Jan. 23, just in time for the Winter Fair. Don’t worry, even though the Margie Wilkins Gallery and Gift Shop will be closed, Hands on Art will start back up soon, and we’ll still have Social Night on the third Wednesday of the month, Jan. 17. This month, we’re hosting a tropical themed painting Social Night. It’s nearly full, so call 535-8278 now to reserve your spot.

In the Wilkins Gallery

Don’t miss this wonderful exhibition from painters across the state. Inspired by one of their “Paint Outs” in Central Montana, this show features the works of several professional painters from across Montana, brought together through the Montana Painters Alliance. After painting in Fergus County last year, the group returned to Lewistown with a diverse group of landscape paintings. Ranging from impressionistic to extremely detailed; this group of works is sure to delight and surprise. You might even see your neighbor’s field, or familiar fishing spot.

This is the last week to experience this exhibition. Stop by this week to explore Central Montana through new eyes. We are grateful to Larry and Cathi Carrell for their sponsorship of this exhibition.

Message from the Director

It’s been nearly six months since I took over as director at the Lewistown Art Center, and time has flown. Since July, the Lewistown Art Center put on multiple events like Comedy Night with Gingers on Ice, Octoberfest, the Christmas Stroll (and Snowball Drop) and WinterSongs. We’ve also continued and expanded our educational programming, steadily gaining young artists in Hands on Art, and growing participation in our Social Nights at the Art Center. We’ve hosted more than nine artists this fall, exhibiting diverse work from ceramic sculpture to pictographs to photography and paintings.

This season certainly gives me opportunities to reflect, and I’ll confess that our Storytelling Social Night led me down a path of fond memories and gratitude. As we listened to stories from community members, about everything from Christmas pageants gone wrong to mountain climbing in Nepal, I was struck by power and diversity of Central Montana’s expression. This community is rich with stories that beg to be shared, visually, orally, musically. I look forward to continuing to hear and share the stories that define us, the experiences that connect us, and art that invigorates us.

Wishing you all a happy, healthy and creative new year.
