Exciting changes

Thanks for your patience as we take some time at the Lewistown Art Center for inventory and improvements. When we see you on Jan. 23, we’ll have a freshly painted gallery (although it’ll be covered in quilts), a re-organized classroom and Ken Edwards ceramic studio, and an up-to-date inventory. (OK, we’re the only ones excited about the inventory.) If you need us for anything, give us a call at 535-8278, and we’ll open by appointment. Maybe you need “On Golden Pond” tickets, or a special piece of art, or have questions about upcoming Social Nights, After School Art classes, or exhibitions… call us.

Montana Winter Fair Quilt

and Fiber Exhibitions, classes

Here at the Art Center, we are looking forward to the Montana Winter Fair. This excellent event is a great way to explore all of the opportunities, resources, and successes of Montana in the winter months. We are thrilled to host the Quilt and Fiber Art Exhibition, featuring the work of Montana’s most talented textile artists. Stop by the LAC between Tuesday, Jan. 23 and Saturday, Jan. 27 to see us covered in quilts, weavings, felt and so much more. It’s the perfect, cozy exhibition to end the first month of the year.

Feeling inspired by our fantastic fiber artists? Try it yourself. The Lewistown Art Center will be hosting four separate workshops that are the perfect time to try something new and creative.

• On Friday, Jan. 26, we’ll host an all-day, Beginning Tatting workshop with Cherilee Martin from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and a Paper Piecing class for quilters with Shawna Crawford and Gerri Campbell from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

• On Saturday, Jan. 27, try Needle Felting with Jane Lund (10 a.m.-5 p.m.), or make Greeting Cards with Julie Norman from 10 a.m.-noon, or try Beginning Drop Spindle Spinning (also with Julie Norman) from 1-5 p.m.

There are fees for some of these courses, so call the LAC at 535-8278 to register or with any questions. We’ll see you there.

Upcoming events

Join us today, Jan. 17, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. for Social Night at the Art Center. This month’s Tropical Acrylic and Canvas Painting Social Night still has seats available. Call to reserve yours today, or join us next month. Social Night is always the third Wednesday of the month, and members of the LAC receive special pricing.

Hands on Art and Adult Clay Club begin again in February

We miss our artists at the LAC, and we’re so excited to get back in the swing of things in February. Remember, our after-school art program, Hands on Art, is open to all growing artists between kindergarten at sixth-grade. Each class (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30-5 p.m.) is only a small fee, and we have punch cards available. Come one, two, or three days a week, whatever works for your schedule.

Adult Clay Club will begin again on Thursday, Feb. 1. This low-pressure “club” is a perfect opportunity for adults (16+) to explore ceramics and our Ken Edwards ceramic studio. Come try pinch pots, coil building, or even throwing on the wheel. Bring ideas of things to make and our staff will help you get there. Clay Club starts at 6:30 p.m., and there is a small fee. No need to register, just show up.

The Lewistown Art Center promotes art, art education and art appreciation in Central Montana. Regular hours are Tuesday – Friday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Admission is always free. Join the “ArtWorks” volunteer group on the second Tuesday of each month, at 9 a.m. to support the Art Center in accomplishing its mission. New members and volunteers are always welcome; for information call 535-8278.
