Athlete of the Week

Dawson Delaney

When Dawson Delaney was just a sophomore on the Grass Range-Winnett football team, he was pressed into service because of injuries to other Rangers on the team. Delaney took quite a beating as a small sophomore, but on Saturday Delaney, now a senior running back, put on a show for the homecoming fans at Grass Range.

After Delaney missed catching the ball on the first two plays of the game, his Coach TJ Smith yelled at him to get his head in the game. On the first next play from scrimmage, Delaney weaved through the Fromberg defense on his way to a 65-yard touchdown run. From there, the rout was on. When the final buzzer blew to end the game, the Rangers had scored a 69-0 win over the Falcons. Delaney scored two more touchdowns in the lopsided win – a 23-yard pass from Caden McCarthy and a 19-yard pass from McCarthy. In addition, Delaney was all over the field on defense, including having two interceptions. Of course, Delaney was not the only star on the field for the Rangers, but this is certainly one game he will remember for years to come.
