Athlete of the Week

Kita Weingart

Kita Weingart is the only senior on this year’s Winnett-Grass Range girls’ basketball team, but her role for the Lady Rams has been an important one. Kita suffered an injury early in the season, and without her senior leadership, the young Lady Rams struggled in many of their conference games. When Kita returned to the team, the Lady Rams seemed to jell and are now playing their best basketball of the season.
Kita does not always have to be the main scorer for Winnett-Grass Range, but just her presence on the floor seems to help maintain a calm for the rest of the Lady Rams.
Kita’s leadership during the District 8C basketball tournament helped the Lady Rams gain a berth in the Northern C Divisional Tournament that is being held in Great Falls this week. Kita scored 10 points in the Lady Rams’ opening round win over Centerville at the district tournament. Many called the Lady Ram win an upset because of how the two teams entered the tournament. Centerville was a three seed, while Winnett-Grass Range was a five seed.
In a semi-final loss to Roy-Winifred, Kita scored 6 points. Saturday morning Kita had 6 more points in a win over DGS. Kita’s highest point total came in the most important game of the season – the consolation win over Centerville. She scored 18 points in the game that punched the Lady Rams’ ticket to the Northern C Divisional Basketball Tournament.
Kita was also an important member of the Winnett-Melstone cross-country team that captured two state Class C titles.
