Athletes of the Week

Kita Weingart

Sam Fulbright

This week we are honoring two cross-country athletes as our athletes of the week. First is Winnett senior Kita Weingart. Weingart finished second in the Class C girls. It was the second time in Weingart’s illustrious high school career that she defeated teammate BreElle Wacker of Melstone. Wacker finished fourth and Franke Johne was 15th overall as the Winnett-Melstone girls’ team repeated as State Class C champions. Weingart had defeated Wacker at the Roundup Invitational the previous Saturday before state.
“Kita peaked at just the right time,” said Coach Walt Stevens. “Her time at state was her second best time of her career, with her time at Roundup being her best time.”
Weingart’s state time was 19:26.20.
The other athlete of the week is Fergus freshman Sam Fulbright. Fulbright finished 14th in the State Class A Boys’ competition with a time of 16:19.81. That time was the fastest for any freshman in Class A. Fulbright helped the Golden Eagles bring home a third-place state trophy. It was also Fulbright’s personal best of his young cross-country career. By placing in the top 15 at state, Fulbright won all-state honors.
