Birdie Ann Roat

Birdie Ann Roat, 54, of Grass Range passed away at her home on Nov. 17 with her husband at her side. She was born in Billings to Sherwood and Roselyn (Vasser) Shelton. She was educated in the Joliet public schools and attended Northwest College in Powell, Wyo. before transferring to Rocky Mountain College in Billings where she received her BS in Education.

In 1990 she was married to Daniel Paul Roat at the Canyon Wedding Chapel in Red Lodge, Mont. Birdie lived with her family in Red Lodge on the Roat family ranch until the fall of 1997, when they moved to Grass Range. They have three children.

Birdie was employed by the Grass Range Public School since 2001, teaching kindergarten, music and art. She was previously employed at a preschool in Red Lodge.

Birdie was an active member of the Grass Range United Methodist Church where she played the piano, sang and helped teach Church School. She was also active in extra-curricular school activities, helping with sporting events and school fund-raisers.

Birdie is survived by her husband, Dan; three daughters: Kari (Sean), Shannon, and Brianna; two sisters, Michelle and Joan; four brothers, Jimmy, John (Darlene), Jerry (Sharon), and Dennis; and her in-laws, Jim and Jan Roat. Birdie leaves behind many nieces and nephews and was preceded in death by a brother, Stephen, and both parents.

Funeral services will be held in the Grass Range Public School gymnasium on Nov. 25 at 3 p.m. with Rev. Gene Erickson presiding. Memorial gifts in Birdie’s memory can be made to the Grass Range United Methodist Church or the Grass Range Ambulance.
