Boys & Girls Club Happenings

From Jacqueline Mercenier, art director

In art this week, the younger Club members will play with geometric shapes and colors to make something fun and kick both left and right sides of the brain to work together.

With the older kids, since they created 3-D letters to write their names, we started exploring perspective. This week, we are going to look into one-point-perspective or “what’s left behind in a rear-view mirror,” the perfect lesson on one-point perspective. (We already did some drawings with a 2-point perspective in past weeks.)

This ought to be fun as we’ll conceive of and paint an imaginary landscape seen in a rear-view mirror, then build the mirror with paper and cardboard.

Hopefully, you’ll be able to see the results soon in our art classroom.

From Crystal Tyler, office manager

We have had a great start to the school year and have many great things planned at the Club. We are going to kick off our year with a family engagement night on Thursday, Sept. 29. Starting at 6:30 p.m., the Club staff will be hosting a “Scattered Progressive Italian Dinner” to our Club parents and board members. Invitations have been sent out but if you have not received your invitation, please call the Club at 535-2257 to RSVP. Come meet new staff, learn more about the programs we offer your children after school and meet some of the important decision makers of the Club. We look forward to showing our appreciation to you all.

From Jenny Casman, social recreation director

Hello, my name is Jenny Casman. I’m the new director for Social Recreation this year and am excited to be here. We’ve been learning to work together playing games and working on puzzles. I will be starting some contests for the Club kids with different kinds of games.
