Testing and tutoring center now open

The Testing and Tutoring Center is located in the Central Montana Education Center at 773 Airport Road. The Center provides free tutoring and individualized instruction for adults aged 16 and older who are not enrolled in a regular school setting. Our instructor offers help in reading, writing, language skills, math, and practical academic skills at the student’s own pace.

People interested in obtaining a high school equivalency diploma, the HiSET (formerly the GED), may attend free test preparation classes at the Center for help in the areas of math, writing skills, science, social studies, and reading comprehension. The HiSET exam is administered in Lewistown once a month during the school year. While preparation and instruction are free, there is a fee to take the HiSET exam.

We also offer college placement exams in the form of the COMPASS and the MUSWA (Montana University System Writing Assessment.) In addition, students taking online courses that wish to have exams proctored by a certified Testing Center may call and set up exams by appointment with our secretary. Fees vary for these services.

The Testing and Tutoring Center is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Call 535-7849 with questions.

Elk viewing tour at CMR Wildlife Refuge

The Central Montana Education Center is partnering with the Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge to offer individuals and families a unique experience this fall. A bus tour of the Slippery Ann elk viewing area, during the peak of the elk rut, will include spine-tingling bugles, dominant bulls defending their harems and almost continuous vocalization between cows and calves.

Registration is currently being accepted for the two different tour dates that are scheduled for Thursday evening, Sept. 29, and Tuesday evening, Oct. 4. Participants will depart from the Fergus High School parking lot at 4 p.m. and return to Lewistown around 9 p.m. Participants must pre-register and pay one week before each trip date at the Central Montana Education Center by stopping at 773 Airport Road, or by calling 535-9022. A minimal fee will be assessed at registration. Participants can either pack a picnic lunch or purchase a box lunch and beverage for a small fee.

Must register and pay by Monday, Sept. 26 for the 29th trip, and register by Friday, Sept. 30 for the Oct. 4 trip, if you’d like a box lunch.

Diane Oldenburg is the Central Montana Education Ceter director.
