Commission denies Quiet Waters Initiative

The Montana Fish and Wildlife Commission voted unanimously last Friday to deny the rule proposal based upon the Quiet Waters Petition heard by the commission in May 2016.

This decision comes after a lengthy public comment period that included meetings around Montana and more than a thousand comments.

The commission initiated rulemaking last spring on a petition submitted by Backcountry Hunters and Anglers titled the Quiet Waters Initiative. The petition sought to restrict motorized boating on a variety of rivers and streams around Montana.

Public hearings on the proposed rules were held throughout Montana in January. Public comment was received between Nov. 25 and Feb. 12. Nearly 2,000 comments were received.
