Dolores Gies

Dolores Gies, 85, died July 13, 2018 at St. John’s Lutheran Ministries nursing home in Billings. Dolores was born in June, 1933, to Howard and Grace Dodge in Lewistown. She was one of five children.

She married Anthony Gies. She started working at the age of 15 at the Empire Café. Evntually she went to work at the Midway Supper Club on Oct. 1, 1954. She was trained to wait tables by a local icon, Toni Holland.

In August, 1963, she gave birth to her only son, John, the joy of her life.

She went on to run the Glacier Tavern for 15 years until she retired.

Dolores was an avid cribbage player who took pride in beating the pants off many a great local crib player. She was

an original member of the Lewistown Chapter Fiesta Club. She was well known for her great sense of humor.

Dolores was preceeded in death by her husband, Anthony Gies, brothers Ronald Dodge, Robert Dodge, Earl “Bucky” Dodge, her sister, Penny Dallas, sister-in-law Rosemary Dodge, step-son Karl Gies and grandson Paul S. Gies.

She is survived by her son John (Bobby) Gies of Billings, step-children Toni Gies, Jack (Denise) Gies, and Paul Gies, all of Lewistown, several nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

The family would like to thank St. John’s nursing facility and RiverStone Health for the great care they provided my mom these past few years and weeks.

A Celebration of Life will take place sometime in September. An announcement will be placed in the local paper with more details. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. John’s Luthern Ministry, 3940 Rimrock Road, Billings, MT 59102, in memory of Dolores Gies.
