Elias Hofer, 62, of King Colony in Lewistown passed away of COVID on Nov. 14, 2021 in Benefis Healthcare in Great Falls. Eli was born Feb. 23, 1959 to Rev. George and Rachel (Walter) Hofer, their first. Eli had a heart as big as he was.

Eli spent his youth riding the hills and creeks, trapping and hunting. School was never a favorite of his, he told his nephews he would stuff his homework in the irrigation culvert on the way home from school to avoid doing it. As a teen, he began working the farm with his favorite tractor, a yellow Wagner. He always said they never made a tractor like that again. From four a.m. to late into the night he’d be on that tractor, dependable and true. He also loved working bees with his dad and spent later years as a sheep herder at King Colony.

Eli loved visiting with friends he knew and met in Lewistown, he left no one ungreeted. He loved his family and especially his nieces and nephews. The feeling was mutual, hours were spent in his company. Eli would tell stories of old times, hunting, fishing, and his true love, farming.

Eli was an early riser, 6 a.m. you would see him home at his mom’s house starting coffee for breakfast.

He leaves behind to mourn, his mother Rachel Hofer; sisters Sarah (Ken) Hofer, Dora Hofer and Kathy (Johnny) Stahl; brothers Ben (Marie) Hofer and George (Amanda) Hofer; along with his nieces and nephews who were his world.

Eli was preceded in death by his father, Rev George R. Hofer and his infant sister Barbara.

Songs of Mourning for Eli Hofer were held at King Colony on Tuesday, Nov. 16 and burial was held Nov. 17 at the King Colony Cemetery.
