Get ready for Mardi Gras.

On Saturday, Feb. 3, St. James Episcopal Church is going to “Les Bon Temps Rouler” (Let the Good Times Roll) at Jack’s Hangar with a Mardi Gras-themed party open to the whole community.

“Last year, St. James’ Episcopal Church gifted the community with an Irish dinner and Celtic music concert,” said Mary Messina, event organizer. “This year we decided to do a Mardi Gras party.”

This event is the first of its kind by St. James, and they hope to see members of the community come out for a fun night of dancing, jubilation and jambalaya.

“Tickets for the event include a fabulous Jambalaya dinner (both regular and vegetarian). The dinner comes with beans and rice, green beans with bacon, corn bread and pecan pie bars,” Messina said. “Plus Annie’s Fizz Bizz will provide ice cream sundaes!”

Like many events at Jack’s Hangar, there will be live music performed by local entertainers.

St. James members Chris Hildebrant and Vernie Sweeney are putting the music together, and they’re pleased already by the enthusiasm musicians have for the opportunity to play blues, jazz and zydeco.

“I’m pumped already,” Hildebrant said.

Hildebrant, a singer and multi-instrumentalist, said he might even play his melodica (a free-reed instrument similar to a pump organ also known as a “key harmonica”) during the show.

There is already a good list of musicians signed up to play, Hildebrant said, but he and Sweeney are still looking for more.

“It’s going to be a fun night,” Hildebrant said, “and it’s for a good cause.”

“Les Bon Temps Rouler” raises funds for St. James Episcopal and their many ministries, which include the Heart of Montana Youth Choir, the Godly Play storytelling program, Grace Camp for children with an incarcerated parent, animal ministry and community start-up Recycle Our Waste Lewistown.

The event takes place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. It will also include a silent auction.

Tickets are available at Don’s Store. Costumes are optional. Beads are given out at the door.
