Ethel Hartman Gilpatrick

Ethel Louise Hartman Gilpartick, 89, of Lewistown passed away Aug. 16, in Lewistown.

Ethel was born in Grass Range on June 2, 1927 to Edward and Tekla (Dengel) Degner. She graduated Grass Range High School in 1945.

On April 6, 1946 she married Ernie Hartman and they went on to have three sons together; they later divorced. Ethel married John Gilpatrick on Jan. 16, 1999.

Ethel knew how to work hard. During her career she was a ranch wife and a waitress and worked her way from an employee to the owner of a state liquor store. In addition to working and raising her children Ethel was active in the Eagle’s Auxiliary, Moose Lodge and 4-H leader. She was also a skilled and gifted seamstress.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and two brothers, and son Dennis Hartman.

Ethel is survived by her husband, John Gilpatrick; son, Dale Hartman, his wife, Michelle and their children, Ryan and Randy; son, Duane Hartman, his wife Diane, and their children, Heather and Heidi; and sister, Pearl Yeager.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Ethel on Friday, Aug. 19, 11 a.m. at the Creel Funeral Home Chapel with inurnment to follow at Lewistown City Cemetery. Memorials in Ethel’s honor may be made to Hospice House of Central Montana in lieu of flowers.
