Fergus FCCLA sees active year

Greetings from Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. This year has been a fun-filled FCCLA year, with many new things.

The 2017 chapter officers are Siri Pederson (president), Lissy Southworth (vice president), Allyssa Aamold (media relations), Andrew Lalum (parliamentarian), Shay Barnes (service hours/points), Kinsey Irvin (service hours/points), Jada Hartman (secretary) and Valerie Kolstad (treasurer).

New Chapter Adviser Sue Nefzger joined Fergus FCCLA from Hopkins, Minnesota. She has been an FCS teacher for eighteen years.

This FCCLA year has been packed, with members discovering “unlimited possibilities” through chapter, district and state meetings. The FCCLA kickoff welcomed 65 new and returning members of District 9.

Following the State Leadership Rally held in Bozeman, the Fergus FCCLA sponsored a school-wide program focusing on distracted teen driving. The program mirrored the national FCCLA program, FACTS (Families Acting for Community Traffic Safety).

Approximately 100 attendees were hosted by the Fergus FCCLA chapter for the District 9 meeting held in November.

To attend district and state meetings, Fergus FCCLA does a lot of fundraising activities of throughout the year. The annual pie sale resulted in 350-plus pies made from scratch. FCCLA members appreciate HCR for their continued support by allowing these delicious pies to be baked in their huge ovens.

Béquet Caramel sales were introduced this year. These Montana-made specialty caramels made a nice option for our community, in addition to our pies.

Fergus FCCLA will be taking 28 students to state competitions to be held in Billings, March 19-21. S.T.A.R. events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) showcase a student’s special interest in an area, through research, creativity and determination. Competitors go up against others around the state for the chance to go to nationals, held in Nashville, Tennessee this July.

The last event for FCCLA will be a Bingo Night in early April to raise money for the members that will be attending nationals in July. The Bingo Night will include a light supper and a silent auction of gift baskets. There will be a more detailed description later on.

FCCLA wants to thank all of the community for their ongoing support of our chapter.
