Florence Whitfield

Florence Whitfield of Stanford, Montana, at the age of 102, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2018 in Great Falls, Montana. She was born in Geyser, on July 12, 1915 to Frank and

Mary Ann (Todd) Proper.

On Nov. 23, 1936 she was married to Ross Whitfield. Ross passed away Sept. 7, 1977.

Florence was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Stanford. She was an elder for three years, chairman of the memorial for three years, and P.W. Treasurer for two years. Florence was a member of the American Legion, Eagles Lodge, and Moose Lodge.

Florence would stay at the Sip and Dip on weekends, and would enjoy dancing at the Eagles Lodge and Moose Lodge. She loved bowling and golfing (active in both at the age of 90). She also loved her coffee hour at the Wolves Den and lunch at the Deli. Saturday mornings usually meant breakfast at the Deli, and don’t forget her weekly special of waffles or pancakes with the girls at R- or the Deli. Florence’s driver’s license hasn’t even expired yet.

Florence is survived by her son, Keith (Vicki) Whitfield of Stanford; grandchildren, Stacey, Shawn, and Jeremy; five greatgrandchildren; sister, Nadine Peterson of St. Paul, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Pat Deverill of Billings; half-brother, Duane (Debbie) Deverill of San Diego, California; and lots of nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ross; sister, Madeline Fish; half-sister, Ramona Wareheim; brothers, James Proper and Ramond Gardner; and half-brother, Murace Deverill.

Memorial Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Stanford on April 7, 2018 at 11 a.m. Inurnment will be at the Stanford Cemetery followed by a luncheon back at the church. Any donations in Florence’s honor can be made to the First Presbyterian Church.
