The Hobson Town Council met on Wednesday, July 20, at 7 p.m. at Hobson City Hall. Mayor Loren Drivdahl presided. Council members present were Ron Peevey, Paulette Matlosz, Bill Spratt and Larry Denton. Also in attendance were Garth French and Nealy Campbell. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Minutes of the prior meeting and financial report were approved and passed.

Nealy reported on upkeep and needs of the swimming pool: Work done on the fence around a pump was bid at $3,000 by Carr’s, but due to extra work needed, the bill was changed to $3,800. Grass seed will be put in where it is still needed. Jim Vanauer will do other areas that need fencing. Mcintyre’s donated $200 for operational needs of the pool arena. Nate Carr re-did the park sign and fixed a ladder at the pool. A changing table has been purchased and installed. It costs $100 weekly for pool chemicals. The lighting fixture outside is motion-sensored. There were 42 kids who took swimming lessons this year that earned $700. Some of the pool tiles have loosened and so will be re-glued. A water pipe broke and has been repaired. Sand filters for the pool would cost $13,000.

Paperwork has been sent to the County Commissioners for the new proposed pool district tax. This is not a new tax, but a continuation of the pool tax that the district voted on in 2011. Taxes will remain the same, but will simply be extended for five more years.

Garth reported on the sewer situation. The council is waiting for a quote from Century to pump sludge from the lagoon and fix the pipes. Lance Hughes will take some of the sludge on some of his property after it has been pumped out and dried. An application will go in for a planning grant for emergency or maintenance money to fund the sludge removal from the lagoon. This may be a temporary fix for the next three years. We have $80,000 to work with, but need more.

The meeting was adjourned at 8 p.m.
