essica Horan has accomplished something not many in Central Montana can say they’ve done – recently she was named a 4-H ambassador at the state level.

Horan’s recognition came during the 4-H Congress in Bozeman.

“The Congress is kind of like a state competition,” she said. “We all get together from across the state and do activities and group events.”

Horan was already a 4-H senior ambassador for Fergus County when she applied for the state level position. But getting to that level was no easy task.

“Fourteen kids applied for five positions,” she explained. “We had to do interviews and give an impromptu motivational speech.

Horan said she felt she did well in the interviews but still wasn’t sure she’d make the grade.

“I was excited and a little nervous,” she said. “The odds weren’t fantastic for me to get in.”

A panel including 4-hers from each district and two 4-H leaders made the selections. Horan was officially inducted as a Montana 4-H ambassador Friday evening.

In her new position, she will be expected to travel to fairs and 4-H events around the state to help out. She will also go to officer retreats and help with planning during the next year.

“I’m looking forward to it,” she said. “Unfortunately they will have to get another ambassador here to help the junior ambassador, since I will be busy at the state level.”
