How bad is Lewistown’s drug use?

Dear Editor,

Thank you very much for the informative article “Comparing apples to taxes.” This is exactly what the residents of Lewistown need to begin to understand the tax issue. The blanket statement “our taxes are too high” doesn’t mean anything. It helps to see how the system works, what mechanisms are used to generate taxes, and from there, look at realistic options we can or cannot use to adjust the rates. This article deals with state taxes. What about the city tax structure? Do you think the Argus could write a similar in-depth article explaining how the city tax rates are established?

Along the line of clearing up certain concepts brought forward in last week’s forum, it was mentioned a couple of times that drug usage is a real concern in our city. I, too, have heard this before. I would like to hear from the professionals how bad it really is. Do you think a panel discussion, sponsored by our community partners, could bring together members from law enforcement, social workers, educators, mental health and medical experts so the public could hear firsthand how pervasive the problem is?
