James (Jim) Leroy Shirey

James (Jim) Leroy Shirey passed away last year on July 27, 2016. The only son of four children, he was born July 22, 1925, in McDonald, Pennsylvania to James Amos and Lillian (Terle) Shirey.

Jim was a WWII Army veteran, and loved to tell his grandsons about all the “funny” things he had done in the Army. He spent most of his life as a carpenter, and loved traveling to his children’s homes to help them in all their handyman endeavors, especially after retiring.

Jim moved to Roy, Montana about 30 years ago after visiting his son and family and falling in love with the love of his life, Helen Umstead.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; Helen, two sisters – Dorothy Kish and Elizabeth Openbrower of McDonald, Pa., grandson Jayson Hobson, and man’s best friend, “Lucky Dog.”

He is survived by one sister – Wilma “Dob” Rashley of Carnegie, Pa., two daughters – Susan (Tim) Hobson of Colorado and Paula (Dan) Stuller of Florida, two sons – Mike (Kathy) Shirey of Montana and Ron (Shelly) Shirey of Oklahoma, 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews spanning at least two generations.

Jim’s memory lives on through all his family. He was loved by all and is missed daily. R.I.P., Dad.

Memorial to follow on July 30.
