Jane M. Sullivan

Jane M. Sullivan passed away peacefully in her home on July 19, 2017 due to a long battle with kidney disease, surrounded by the family she loved. Jane was born in Lewistown on June 26, 1938 to James and Mabel Harney. She was raised on their farm in Benchland, where she attended grade school.  Jane graduated from Moccasin High School in 1956. She graduated from Eastern Montana College with a teaching certificate in 1958.

Jane and Gerald “Jerry” Sullivan were united in marriage at St Leo’s Catholic Church in Lewistown on June 21, 1958. They were blessed with three children: James, David and Dona.

Jane devoted many years to raising the family she loved and eventually returned to the classroom as a teacher’s aid at Highland Park School. In 1984, Jane and Jerry went on an adventure together, moving to Nevada. It was there that Jane lost the love of her life. Jane retuned to Billings until she retired back to Lewistown in 2005.

Jane loved her grandchildren and spent countless hours watching them compete; she rarely missed a game. Jane is best described by her family and friends as a kind, gentle and caring lady who loved selflessly. She was very grateful to all of her family and friends who traveled to visit her during her last week with us. She shared many great smiles.

Jane volunteered at the Museum and Central Montana Historical Association for many years and was active in her Extension Club and loved spending time with her exercise group.

Jane is survived by her three children: son, James (Shelley) Sullivan and Kyle, Kelly and Kristen, son, David Sullivan and Tanner (Olivia), Rachel (Anas), and Shelbi, and daughter, Dona (Monte) Harrison and Tori, Carson, Matt and Mason; her brother, Michael Harney; sisters, Mary (David) Heinrich, Pat Cecrle, and Kay (Henry) Deming; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald and her parents, James and Mabel Harney.

A Graveside Service, (open to the public, friends welcome), will be Monday, July 24, at the Lewistown City Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. Memorials can be made to the Central Montana Foundation, CMMC Hospice or the Central Montana Historical Association.

Arrangements and cremation are under the care of Creel Funeral Home. Jane’s family and friends can share memories and condolences at www.creelfuneralhome.com
