John “Doc” Peterson

John “Doc” Timothy Peterson, 75, quietly left to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on November 16, 2022. John was born in Lewistown on May 12, 1947. He attended St. Leo’s Catholic School along with his two brothers, James Jr “Tinker” and David. John married Alma Rose Allison on May 22, 1966. They had two daughters, Tina and Kim. In 1970, he entered the U.S. Army. While serving in South Korea, he met Su Hui Yi, who became his wife on January 26, 1972. They had three daughters, Lisa, Sherry, and Sonja. John spent most of his life living in Lewistown and made many friends as well as many in the armed forces. John earned the nickname “Doc” from his work as a medic in the Army. He also served in the National Guard for several years. In 1989, John attended Spokane Falls Community College. Since he was naturally gifted and knowledgeable in many ways, he spent his working years in various fields. He worked at the Yogo Inn, the Center for the Aged, Mountain Meadows, and the Lewistown Airport. John married Libby Severson on May 7, 2011, and was blessed with Libby’s family; daughter, Kerry and her husband, Marvin and their two children, Camryn and Bradley. John and Libby enjoyed camping, feeding birds, NASCAR, and watching their favorite television programs. They also attended the Presbyterian Church. John enjoyed going to church for many years up until his passing.

He enjoyed watching old westerns, hunting and fishing as well as making jerky, canning, and baking. He was very talented and painted beautiful portraits of trout, mountains, and could also sketch very well. He was also a good carpenter, making many things including tables, cabinets, and clocks. He enjoyed the “critters,” as he would call them, and liked to feed the birds as well as ducks when he lived at The Meadows. John made many friends throughout his life and always enjoyed visiting with them. He was always willing to help others out and give as much as he could. He enjoyed the company of his cockatiel, Tweedle, for many years. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and giving them gifts. He especially enjoyed caring for and spending time with his youngest grandson, Damien. John had a big heart and will be missed by many.

John is survived by daughters, Tina (Tom) Garland of Butte, Kim (Rich) Harned of Whitehall, Lisa (David) Haney of Great Falls, Sherry (Pat) Evans of Douglas, Wyo., and Sonja Peterson of Lewistown; brothers, James Peterson Jr of Gillette, Wyo., and David Peterson of San Jose, Calif.; twelve grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
