Judith Basin American Legion Auxiliary

Members of the Judith Basin American Legion Auxiliary met Monday, June 6 at the Seven Day Weekend for a no-host luncheon. A short business meeting by President Mae Rosman was held. Volunteers Nell Blair, Rosalie Bruchez, Becky Mattix, Audrey Miller, Mae Rosman and Joyce Turner reported Poppy Day held on Memorial Day was quite successful even though the weather did not cooperate. Rosalie Bruchez, Karol Hardt, and Mae Rosman assisted by John Skarda and Jane Wertheimer removed garbage from the Philbrook and Utica cemeteries to make it ready for mowing.

Poppy Poster Chairman Audrey Miller reported sending winning posters to the Department for further judging. Mae and Irene Welch’s history will be taken to the Department Convention.

WWII Veterans from Post #76; Russ Hodge, Robert Kassala, Les Madsen, Joe Murray, Albert Rosman Jr., Myron Stratton, Walter Waite along with Korean Veterans; Cliff Blair, Lear Flanagan Jr., Kjell Hoelstad, Gene Hutchinson, Robert Lenz, Jim Mikkelsen, LeRoy Miller, Tony Penak, Jim Reighard, Ken Rosman, Jim Stevenson, Dick Swanz, George Trask, Ray Valentine, Irene Welch and Jack Wright were remembered with notes of thanks for their service to our country.

Seventeen cookie “canteens” were filled with cookies brought by members. They were delivered to veterans close by and letters with a “tuck in” were sent to the others.  Members and friends are reminded to attend the memorial service for Legion member Bob Williams, to be held at the Tall Boys Tavern on July 3.

The next meeting will be a no-host luncheon on Sept. 12, details will be posted later.
