Letter to the Editor - Bells ring for local needs

Dear Editor,

Now that it is December, I’m happy to see all the signs of the season: the lights, the music, the decorations and the Salvation Army bell. I’ve always been someone who drops my change into the red pot, but until recently, I never knew where it ended up. For those of you like me, who didn’t know, here’s what I learned.

The money stays in our community and is managed by a board of church leaders. They respond to a variety of requests from people who need food vouchers, medicine, rent assistance, clothing for work or utility money.

When we hear the bell, it’s our opportunity to listen deeply and hear these needs. It’s our opportunity to live the gospel of Matthew 25. It’s our opportunity to answer the questions posed in that chapter. Give generously. I will.
