Mary M. Pitts

Mary Mildred (Kuka) Pitts, 94, a longtime resident of Sapphire Village, passed away from natural causes Feb. 18, 2017 at Benefis Hospital, in Great Falls, Montana.

A life celebration will be held on Feb. 25, 2017 at the Lindquist Mortuary in Layton, Utah where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Glenn.

She was born on Aug. 21, 1922, in Boswell, Penn., to Mary and John Kuka. Shortly afterwards, her family moved to Masarktown, Fla. where she grew up with her two sisters, Ann and Helen.

On May 4, 1952 she married a dashing Air Force airman, Glenn Grant Pitts, at McDill Air Force Base, in Tampa, Fla. As a proud military spouse, she raised her family in a variety of locations including Fairford, England; Great Falls, Mont.; and Spokane, Wash., before she and Glenn retired and moved to Sapphire Village in 1973.

Mary was an avid rock hound, collecting fascinating specimens throughout Montana. She enjoyed faceting gems and designing jewelry. She also loved to cook and bake and would often share her culinary talents with neighbors and friends. Mary was an active member of the Utica Women’s Club and could be found at their regular gatherings, always with a pie or cake.

Mary is survived by her sister Ann Mattatall; daughters Sondra Hudson, Jeannie Brockhausen, Ann Gillett, and Janice Vincent; son Stephen Pitts; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Glenn, her husband of 55 years, preceded her in death as did her brother Andy Kuka and sister Helen Sherrill.
