Missouri River Horse Challenge is Sunday

The ninth annual Missouri River Horse Challenge will be held on Sunday, Sept. 4, at the Winifred Stockyards Rodeo Arena, starting with Cowboy Church at 8:30 a.m. and the performance events at 9 a.m.

The Challenge is usually held on Labor Day weekend. This has been a very popular event with the Winifred community and surrounding area. The junior and senior Classes will have a concession stand.

On May 20, 13 registered quarter horses were drawn by talented trainers from around the state. After training for about 90 days, only nine will show in the performance events on Sunday. All are registered with the American Quarter Horse Association. Prizes will be given to top four winners in the contest including $1,800 toward the purchase of a saddle for first place, and belt buckles and cash prizes from sponsors for the succeeding places.

There will be an auction sale of these horses following the performance events. We encourage everyone to come to Winifred for a good time, and to see horses do some required performance and then some amazing free-style training.

For more information, please call T.J. Stulc, Winifred, at (406) 462-5405 or Gary Boyce at (406) 462-5344.

Also, a Fun Day for kids is planned for Labor Day Monday, Sept. 5, with sign-up at 9 a.m. and the events starting at 10 a.m.
