Central Montana’s beautiful scenery and friendly atmosphere have attracted a group of talented Montana Plein Air artists for a long weekend of outdoor, onsite painting.  Starting Thursday, Sept. 22 through Sunday, Sept. 25, area residents may notice easels, canvases, paintbrushes, umbrellas, and about two dozen artists scattered to paint the landscape in a variety of mediums and styles. The public is invited to stop and visit with the artists at any time.

Members of the Montana Painter’s Alliance are professional artists that come from all over the state and gather twice a year for “paint outs” that involve three or four days of intensive plein air painting in all kinds of weather. Field studies for future reference as well as finished paintings are produced at these paint outs where MPA artists enjoy the camaraderie and expertise that each individual brings to the group.

MPA is happy to be coming to Lewistown at the invitation of the Lewistown Art Center. The Art Center and the MPA invites the public to a “tail gate” party from 5 to 7 p.m. at Brewery Flats’ John Turner Building where the artists will, as is customary on their final night of a paint-out, informally show (unframed and on their tail gates) their paintings done throughout the weekend. A more formal show of finished paintings will take place at the Lewistown Art Center in 2017.

The Lewistown Art Center has also coordinated an opportunity for area high school art students to spend Thursday and Saturday afternoons painting with an MPA artist. Student artwork will also be shown at Brewery Flats on Saturday evening.

Again, meet the artists; see their work at a “Tail Gate” Party on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 5 – 7 p.m. There will be food, drink, and music at Brewery Flats, John Turner Building.
