Montana Repertory Theatre returns Feb. 6

The Montana Repertory Theatre is bringing Neil Simon’s “Barefoot in the Park” to town.

A “wistful domestic comedy” set in Greenwich Village, “Barefoot” is the story of Paul (Hunter S. Hash) and Corie Bretter (Whitney Miller): newlyweds and opposites. Paul, an uptight attorney, and Corie, a free spirit, don’t have hardly anything in common.  As Corie tries to convince Paul to mellow out and Paul attempts to get her to settle down, see how it all unravels. It’s a classic conflict told in hilarious fashion.

Made famous in 1967 when the film came out starring Jane Fonda and Robert Redford, “Barefoot” remains a highly regarded comedy, and the Montana Repertory Theatre is excited to share it.

This is a big year for the Montana Repertory Theatre, as they are celebrating their 50th anniversary. Coincidentally, Simon’s classic romantic comedy is also celebrating its 50th anniversary.

“We feel it is fitting in this auspicious season to honor and produce one of the true giants of the American theatre,” Montana Repertory Theatre wrote in a news release. “Please join us as we celebrate a half-century of great theatre.”

Montana Repertory Theatre comes to Lewistown courtesy of Lewistown’s Kiwanis Club, as has been the case for many years. Chapter President Cherie Neudick said she is particularly excited about this year.

“It’s not everyday we get a production of this magnitude here in town,”Neudick said.  “Not only is this an opportunity to see a great play, but it’s also a way to give back to the community. Kiwanis is all about kids, and this is our major fundraiser for helping children with scholarships and other projects. I can’t begin to name them all.”

“Barefoot” comes to the Fergus Center for the Performing Arts Monday, Feb. 6.

The show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the Lewistown Art Center.
