New pedestrian trail planned at Missouri Headwaters State Park

Montana State Parks issued a decision notice for the proposed Trident-Peregrine Birding Trail at Missouri Headwaters State Park near Three Forks, Montana.

The proposed project will construct a new pedestrian trail at the northern area of Missouri Headwaters State Park. The trail will parallel the Missouri River for 1/8 mile, from the trailhead near the MHSP boat launch site to a small designated viewing area. The project also includes installation of trailside facilities and interpretive signage.

The Trident-Peregrine Birding Trail is a cooperative project between Montana State Parks, CRH-Trident Cement Plant, Sacajawea Audubon Society and Montana State University. Additionally, $25,000 was awarded for the project by NorthWestern Energy through the Missouri-Madison River Fund program.

A draft Environmental Assessment regarding the proposed project was presented to the public for review via a 31-day comment period that ran from June 14, 2016 through July 15. Six comments were received via email during the comment period; all were supportive of the project.

It was determined the proposed action would have no significant effects on the human or physical environment. Therefore, an environmental impact statement will not be prepared and the Draft Environmental Assessment is will be the Final EA.
