Denton to have

free preschool clinic March 7

The Denton School District, in conjunction with the Central Montana Learning Resource Center Cooperative, E.C.I. and Head Start, will sponsor a free preschool clinic at the school for children ages birth to prekindergarten on Wednesday, March 7. Children ages three–five years will have their hearing, vision, speech/ language and development screened. The Ages and Stages questionnaire will be administered to children birth to five years to help gauge the child’s development and potential problems. In addition to the screening, E.C.I. will coordinate with the individual schools for children ages birth to 35 months. At the conclusion, results of all applied screenings and interpretation of the questionnaire will be discussed with the parents.

For children eligible to enroll in kindergarten in the fall, an academic screener will also be conducted. Parents and guardians are strongly encouraged to see their children take part in this screening to identify possible problem areas for their child(ren). Historic Resources

Commission to consider

pictorial history book

The Lewistown historic Resource Commission will hold its regular meeting on Thursday, March 1, 2017 at 8 a.m. at the Lewistown Public Library. Use the 7th Avenue door.

The agenda includes discussion on the new by-laws, pictorial history book and current preservation issues facing the community as well continued planning for the activities scheduled for Historic Preservation Month in May. Kyle Dubbs will be welcomed as a new commission member.

The historic commission meetings are open to the public and those with an interest in promoting historic preservation in the community are encouraged to attend.

Lewistown Writers

Group to meet today

The Lewistown Writers’ Group will meet at 1:30 p.m. today, Feb. 24, in the Lewistown Public Library, upstairs meeting room. The lead in for this meeting is: “After my surgery I felt….” Remember to bring copies for the group.

The Lewistown Writers’ Group is a collaboration of Central Montana writers who meets on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month. It is a nonprofit resource for writers of all genres and skill levels. Members include published writers as well as not-yet-published and others who like to write simply for enjoyment.

If you like to write or think you might like to write, or would just like to meet people who do, come and join us. If you have a finished or in progress piece you would like to share, please feel free to bring it with you. For more information, please contact Kathy at 350-1495.

Fair Board

meeting rescheduled

The regular monthly meeting of the Fergus County Fair Board will be held at 5:30 p.m., Feb. 27, not Feb. 20 as previously planned, in the lobby of the Trade Center. Items to be discussed include the financial report, claim approval, public participation, cement bathroom project, comfort station status, and the Central Montana Fair contracts.

The public is encouraged to attend.

Fergus County Commissioners meeting scheduled for Feb. 26

The Board of Fergus County Commissioners will hold their regular business meeting on Monday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. in the Fergus County Commissioners’ Office (712 West Main Street, Suite 210) in Lewistown. Items on the agenda include claims and Lewistown Rural Fire District appointments. This meeting is open to the public.

Swing and sway

to Silver Sage this afternoon

The Silver Sage Country Band is scheduled to play for today’s afternoon dance. The band features Lloyd McKenna on mandolin and guitar, Meryl McKenna on piano, Barbara Engle on bass guitar and Don Engle on lead guitar. All will participate in harmony vocals.

The dance hall is located at the corner of Third Avenue South and Barnes Street. The dance goes from 2 to 4 p.m. Dancers of all ages are welcome.

There will be a coffee/cookie break at 3 p.m. There is a small admission fee.
