Denton to have

free preschool clinic

March 7

The Denton School District, in conjunction with the Central Montana Learning Resource Center Cooperative, E.C.I. and Head Start, will sponsor a free preschool clinic at the school for children ages birth to prekindergarten on Wednesday, March 7. Children ages three–five years will have their hearing, vision, speech/language and development screened. The Ages and Stages questionnaire will be administered to children birth to five years to help gauge the child’s development and potential problems. In addition to the screening, E.C.I. will coordinate with the individual schools for children ages birth to 35 months. At the conclusion, results of all applied screenings and interpretation of the questionnaire will be discussed with the parents.

For children eligible to enroll in kindergarten in the fall, an academic screener will also be conducted. Parents and guardians are strongly encouraged to see that their children take part in this screening to identify possible problem areas for their child(ren). Appointments may be made by calling the school at (406) 567-2370.

Knights of

Columbus to have

Fish Fry

Join us in the St. Leo’s Mandatum Commons Friday, March 9, from 5 to 7 p.m. for the last fish fry of the Lenten Season. The Knights of Columbus will prepare fried and baked fish, baked potatoes, coleslaw, corn and rolls. There is a cost for the meal, as well as special pricing for families.

The Knights of Columbus, founded as a Catholic fraternal benefit society, works as an international charitable organization. Locally, Knights support St. Leo’s youth groups, Special Olympics, seminarians, the Community Cupboard, and fund scholarships, pro-life and family causes.

Stockman Bank presents a seminar on understanding the new tax changes Wednesday, March 7 from 2-4 p.m. at the Yogo Inn. Speakers include Mickey McMillan, Arntzen and Ruckman CPA, and Brandon Bantz. Tax professionals will go over new tax law changes including changes to deductions, estate and gift exclusions, corporate tax rate reduction and updated depreciation rules, among other topics.

Local Emergency

Planning Committee

to discuss response

plan requirements

on March 1

On March 1 from 12-2 p.m., the Local Emergency Planning Committee will meet at the City Complex, 305 W. Watson St. in Lewistown. Items to be discussed include: Discuss LEPC Emergency Response Plan Requirements for facilities that contain hazardous materials – decide whether to draft letter for requesting their ERP info or whether it makes sense to develop our own with all county facilities that contain hazmat; draft public announcement for invitation to review Tier 2 Reports/attend participate in LEPC meetings; and if time allows, conduct table-top discussion for lessons learned during past flood events and discuss potential for spring flooding.

The next meeting is scheduled for April 12 at the County Complex. This meeting is open to the public.

Historic Resources

Commission to

consider pictorial

history book

The Lewistown historic Resource Commission will hold its regular meeting on Thursday, March 1, 2017 at 8 a.m. at the Lewistown Public Library. Use the 7th Avenue door.

The agenda includes discussion on the new by-laws, pictorial history book and current preservation issues facing the community as well continued planning for the activities scheduled for Historic Preservation Month in May. Kyle Dubbs will be welcomed as a new commission member.

The historic commission meetings are open to the public and those with an interest in promoting historic preservation in the community are encouraged to attend.

Albertsons grand

opening delayed by


Winter weather has pushed the grand opening date for the newly remodeled Albertsons store into April, according to store manager Bob Agostinelli.

Agostinelli said wind and snow have slowed construction on the exterior of the building.

The new date for the grand opening ceremonies is Wednesday, April 11, with the ribboncutting beginning at 9 a.m.

District board to set

up standing


The Lewistown Arts and Entertainment District Association Board of Directors will hold its next meeting on Friday, March 2 at 10:30 a.m. in the Brooks Building conference room. The main agenda item is to establish standing committee memberships. Four standing committees are established in the association’s bylaws – Design, Finance, Marketing and Promotion, and Economic Vitality.

Members of the association are encouraged to attend this important meeting since having active standing committees is essential to the success of the association. The public is also invited to attend. The sevenmember Board of Directors include Patty Thompson, president; Lyndia Sue Smitman, vice-president; Lorelei Miksch, treasurer; Duane Ferdinand, secretary; Esther Distad; Toni Gies; and Tammy Pyrah.
