Meeting to kick off Drought Plan update

 

Lieutenant Governor Mike Cooney will lead a work session of the Governor’s Drought and Water Supply Advisory Committee on Oct. 28, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation’s Fred Buck Conference Room, located at 1424 Ninth Avenue in Helena.

Ada Montague, a DNRC water planner who staffs the Advisory Committee, said the meeting will start the process of updating the Montana Drought Response Plan. Committee members will develop a draft outline of updates to the existing plan, and will also select a working group to oversee the process.

The working group will include representatives of municipal and industrial water users, agriculture and livestock, recreation and tourism, hydropower, fish and wildlife, and mining, Montague said.

Following the meeting, proposed updates to the existing plan will be available for public comment beginning Nov. 1; the comment period will run for 30 days.

The public is encouraged to attend the meeting, either in person, via teleconference or online.

Grass Range Rural Fire District to hold annual meeting

 

The Grass Range Rural Fire District will hold its annual membership meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. at the Grass Range EMS Building, 607 Main Street in Grass Range. This meeting is open to the public.

 

Big Spring Watershed Council to discuss soccer fields

 

The Big Spring Watershed Council will meet on Monday, Oct. 24 at 3 p.m. in the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Area Resource Office in Lewistown. Items to be discussed include proposed soccer fields, on-going projects status, Spring Creek status and trends, Hanson Dam handicapped access and more. This meeting is open to the public.

 

Sway and swing to Wind and Strings

 

Come and dance to the country band Wind and Strings at the Saturday, Oct. 22 afternoon dance. The band features Tom Wilson on harmonica, Carole Songer on vocals, Tony Hencil on dobro, Barbara Burley on piano and Woodie Westburg on guitar and vocals.

The dance hall is located at the corner of Third Avenue South and Barnes Street. The dance goes from 2 to 4 p.m. Dancers of all ages are welcome.

There will be a coffee/cookie break at 3 p.m. There is a small admission fee.

 

Zeta Chapter schedules Monday meeting

 

Zeta Chapter, an international organziation for women educators, meets Monday, Oct. 24 at 6:30 p.m. at La Vonne Borgreen’s home, 120 Sunset Street in Lewistown. Join the group for wine, crackers and mysteries. Call 538-4301 for confirmation or email to squiggy@lewistown.net.
