Autism/Asperger parent support group meets Tuesday

 

Are you a parent or family member of a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder or Asperger Syndrome? Are you interested in joining with other parents and family members who share your experiences? The Central Montana Learning Resource Center Cooperative would like to invite you to join us for our monthly meeting. It will be held at the Lincoln building, 215 Seventh Avenue South, in the conference room at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21. Birders to plan 2017 field trips

 

Members of the Lewistown Birding Bunch will meet Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. at Fish, Wildlife and Parks, 215 West Aztec Lane (near the airport), to plan field trips for the 2017 season. Field trips are among birders’ most cherished traditions.

Bring your ideas and your calendars, and the 2016 trip list if you have it.

City Commission considers Parks and Rec board and city manager job description 

 

The Lewistown City Commission meets Tuesday, Feb. 21. The meeting of the Committee of the Whole at 6 p.m. includes a discussion of water and sewer funds. The commission meeting starts at 7 p.m. 

Items on the agenda include amending an ordinance pertaining to credit received against fines imposed for jail time served, amending Lewistown City code pertaining to the designation of the official ward district boundary map, amending an ordinance specifying members of the Parks and Recreation Board must be city residents, an amendement to an MOU between the City and MDOT for a state-funded Park Rest Area program, public hearing and consideration of property tax benefits for the remodeling, reconstruction or expansion of property located at 409 W. Main, public hearing and possible action on a conditional use permit for operating a custom framing business from a residence and possible action on approval of the City Manager job description.

The meeting takes place at the Community Center, 307 W. Watson, and is open to the public.

 

Youngbauer to speak at Americanism program

 

Vesper Chapter 83 and Judith Lodge 86 will hold their annual Americanism program on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. at the Masonic Hall in Hobson. The speaker will be Fergus County Commissioner Sandy Youngbauer. Refreshments will be served following the program. The public is invited to attend.

 

Fair Board to have regular meeting Feb. 21

 

The regular monthly meeting of the Fergus County Fair Board will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 21, in the lobby of the Trade Center. The agenda includes horse show and rodeo reports, the pavilion, activities and entertainment, and use of gate funds.

This meeting is open to the public. The next regular board meeting will be on March 21 at 5:30 p.m.

 

Writers Group to meet Feb. 23

 

The Lewistown Writer’s Group will meet Thursday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at 712 Seventh Avenue North, in Lewistown. Maxine Melton will host the group this week.

LWG is a collaboration of Central Montana writers who meet on the second Saturday and fourth Thursday of the month. It is a non-profit resource for writers of all genres and skill levels. Members include published authors as well as those who like to write for enjoyment.

If you like to write, or be in the company of writers, come join us. If you want to share a piece of your work, bring eight copies.

Pep up your day with the Groovy Gaffers

 

The Groovy Gaffers will provide the music for today’s afternoon dance. The band features Laurie Lohrer on vocals, and Dave Robertson, Don Engle and Barb Engle on guitars and vocals. The dance goes from 2 to 4 p.m. with a short coffee cookie break at 3 p.m.

If you enjoy dancing to good country music, come and join in the fun. Dancers of all ages are welcome. The club building is located at the corner of Third Avenue South and Barnes Street. There is a small admission fee.

 

Local artist offers art discussion classes

 

On Tuesday, Feb. 21, Clint Loomis’ “discussions about art” series will begin at his gallery located at 221 W. Main Street. The program is a three-week program, covering topics such as “what is art?” “does art have to be beautiful” and “what are the themes and purposes of art?” The class will also dive into “the creative impulse.”

Classes are free and open to the public and begin at 7 p.m. For more information, call Loomis at 366-3068.

 

Elk Foundation banquet planned for March 25

 

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation’s Heartland Chapter will be holding a banquet Saturday, March 25 at the Lewistown Fairgrounds Trade Center. Doors open at 5 p.m.

There will be prizes, auctions and dinner. Proceeds ensure the future of elk, other wildlife, their habitat and our hunting heritage.

TIF District board to meet Feb. 27

 

The next public meeting of the Lewistown Tax Increment Financing District Board will be held at 8 a.m. in the SMDC Conference Room, 613 Northeast Main Street in Lewistown, on Monday, Feb. 27. Agenda items include review of any applications, determination of loan terms and other items. This meeting is open to the public.
