Birders to plan 2017 field trips today

 

Members of the Lewistown Birding Bunch will meet Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. at Fish, Wildlife and Parks, 215 West Aztec Lane (near the airport), to plan field trips for the 2017 season. Field trips are among birders’ most cherished traditions.

Bring your ideas and your calendars, and the 2016 trip list if you have it.

Green Share group brings gardening class to Loomis Gallery

 

Central Montana Resource Council Green Share Project is sponsoring an organic gardening class on Saturday, Feb. 25 from 2-5 p.m. at the Clint Loomis Gallery (221 W. Main Street). Patty Armbrister, FFA and vocational agricultural teacher from Hinsdale, Montana, will discuss garden planning, no-till gardening and composting.

County commissioners meet Friday afternoon

 

The Fergus County Board of Commissioners will meet Friday, Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. Items on the agenda include a bid opening for a new weed truck, announcments of peronnel and board or commission openings, consideration of a resolution to accept a Tobacco Use Prevention grant, consideration of a resolution to accept Box Elder Road as a county road, and review of a draft check off sheet to go with petitions for establishment, alteration or abandonment of county roads. The meeting takes place in the commissioners’ second floor office in the courthouse and is open to the public.

 

Elk Foundation banquet planned for March 25

 

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation’s Heartland Chapter will be holding a banquet Saturday, March 25 at the Lewistown Fairgrounds Trade Center. Doors open at 5 p.m.

There will be prizes, auctions and dinner. Proceeds ensure the future of elk, other wildlife, their habitat and our hunting heritage.

Sing along and sway with Silver Sage

 

The Silver Sage Country Band is scheduled to play for the Feb. 25, Saturday afternoon dance. The band features Lloyd McKenna on mandolin and guitar, Meryl McKenna on piano, Barbara Engle on bass guitar and Don Engle on lead guitar. All will participate in harmony vocals.

The dance goes from 2-4 p.m. with a short coffee/cookie break at 3 p.m. Dancers of all ages are welcome.

The dance hall is located at the corner of Third Avenue South and Barnes Street. There is a small admission fee.

 

Square dance cancelled this week

 

The square dancing group with caller Jayson Shobe will not meet this week. The group ususally dances on Thursday nights. 

The next dance will be Thursday, March 2, starting at 6:45 p.m. The dance is open to anyone, experienced or not. 

 

Writers Group to meet Thursday

 

The Lewistown Writer’s Group will meet Thursday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at 712 Seventh Avenue North, in Lewistown. Maxine Melton will host the group this week.

LWG is a collaboration of Central Montana writers who meet on the second Saturday and fourth Thursday of the month. It is a non-profit resource for writers of all genres and skill levels. Members include published authors as well as those who like to write for enjoyment.

If you like to write, or be in the company of writers, come join us. If you want to share a piece of your work, bring eight copies.

 

Arts and Entertainment District board meets with city officials

 

The Lewistown Arts and Entertainment District Association Board will meet at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, in the second floor conference room in the Brooks Building on Main Street. City officials have been invited to discuss information on downtown beautification projects. 

The meeting is open to the public and those interested in arts and entertainment projects are encouraged to attend.
