Open invitation to Aeronautics Board meeting in Helena

 

The public is invited to attend the Montana Aeronautics Board teleconference meeting on Tuesday, June 6, at the Montana Department of Transportation Aeronautics Division building, 2630 Airport Road, in Helena. Starting at 8 a.m., items on the agenda include: public comment, FY 17 extension requests, and airway beacon update discussion. The time of 8:15 a.m. has been set aside for public comment on any aeronautics-related issues.

Celebrate spring with fried chicken

 

Come celebrate spring by enjoying the annual fried chicken dinner at the Grass Range United Methodist Church on Sunday, June 4. Serving will be from noon-2 p.m. Dinner will include mashed potatoes, cream gravy, full salad bar, homemade rolls, and all topped off with a generous piece of homemade pie.

Proceeds from this dinner are used to award scholarships to GRHS graduating seniors and to help fund the annual Vacation Bible School, June 6 – 8.

Share a ride with some friends and enjoy the beautiful green landscape. There’ll also be a drawing for a quilted wallhanging.

 

American Legion to hold Memorial Day services and dinner

 

The Judith Gap American Legion Post No. 70 will hold Memorial Day services at the Buffalo/Straw Cemetery at 9:15 a.m., at the UBet Cemetery, weather permitting, at 9:45 a.m., and at the Judith Gap Cemetery at 11:15 a.m. on May 29. The Judith Gap American Legion Auxiliary will hold its Memorial Day Dinner at the Judith Gap Methodist Church at 11:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome to attend.

 

Fill up on burgers and beans at the Moose Lodge

 

Head to the Moose Lodge Dining Room starting at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 29, for burgers and beans, and more, to honor Memorial Day.

 

Passes and lesson sign-ups to open at Pool

 

Season pool passes and lesson sign-ups will be available in the pool office from 4-6 p.m. starting May 30 through Friday, June 2. Sign-ups and passes will continue to be available during regular pool hours after the pool opens on June 3.

The swimming pool will open Saturday, June 3. Hours will be 1-7 p.m.

There is a $2 pool entry fee with slide pass included. If you purchase a season pass, the slides will be free for the day.

 

Montana State Prison to return to regular visitation schedule

 

Montana State Prison warden Michael Fletcher announced inmate visitation resumes Saturday, May 27. Visitations were cancelled for the weekend of May 20th due to an outbreak of influenza within the facility.

Montana State Prison took precautionary measures including facility-wide disinfecting, limiting inmate movement and vaccinations. Please be advised that Montana State Prison continues to have influenza like illness within the facility. Visitors who have chronic conditions such as lung problems, diabetes, heart disease, or are otherwise immune-compromised, are at higher risk to become sick if exposed. We are asking that if you have any of the above conditions to please reconsider visiting during this time.

Visitation is currently on a restricted schedule of Saturdays and Sundays from 2:30-7:30 p.m. Montana State Prison will return to the regular visiting schedule starting June 15. The regular schedule is Thursdays through Sundays from 2:30-7:30 p.m.

Sage Grouse Oversight Team meets June 2 in Helena

 

The Montana Sage Grouse Oversight Team will hold its next meeting on June 2, from 1:30-5 p.m., at the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation Headquarters, 1539 11th Ave., in Helena.

Along with updates from MSGOT members and federal agency partners, the meeting will include public comment and potential action on reallocation of funding from the Hansen Ranch Conifer Reduction Project to a Hansen Ranch conservation easement. Other topics include updates and public comment on development of the Habitat Quantification Tool.

The public is welcome.

The Montana Sage Grouse Habitat Conservation Program works to sustain viable sage grouse populations and conserve habitat, enabling Montanans to maintain control of their lands, wildlife and economy by avoiding a listing of the greater sage grouse under the federal Endangered Species Act.

 

Wind and Strings to perform at today’s dance

 

Come and dance to the country band, Wind and Strings, at the today’s afternoon dance. The band features Tom Wilson on harmonica, Carole Songer on vocals, Barbara Burley on piano, Tony Hencil on dobro and Woodie Westburg on guitar and vocals.

The dance hall is located at the corner of Third Avenue South and Barnes Street. The dance goes from 2 to 4 p.m. Dancers of all ages are welcome.

There will be a coffee/cookie break at 3 p.m. There is a small admission fee.
