Arts and Entertainment district association to meet Friday The Lewistown Arts and Entertainment District Association will have a discussion session at noon on Friday, Aug. 26, in the Chokecherry Lane Mall, 311 West Main Street. Among items to be discussed will be the preservation of various ghost signs around Lewistown. Those are the still-visible vintage business signs on older buildings. The meeting is open to the public. Barn square dance on Sept. 2 Jayson Shobe is calling a barn square dance on Friday, Sept. 2, at the Merrill Ranch barn. The dance includes a chili cook-off potluck supper at 6 p.m., with the dance in the “loft” to follow. The Merrill Ranch is 12.4 miles south of Eddie’s Corner on Hwy. 191, on the east side of the highway (turn left after the big oil tanks). Fergus County Commissioners to meet this Wednesday The Board of Fergus County Commissioners to hold their Regular Business meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. at the Commissioners’ Office, 712 West Main Street, Suite 210, in Lewistown. Items to be discussed include road department, county planning and administrative personnel announcements and Ackley Lake State Park. The public is invited. The next meeting (Preliminary Budget Hearing) is planned for Tuesday, Aug. 30 at 2 p.m. Please remember that agenda items are due to the Commissioners 10 days prior to the meeting. Calling all Democrats Central Montana Democrats will gather for their Summer Picnic in Frank Day Park on Thursday, Aug. 25. The picnic begins at 4 p.m. Larry Jent, Democratic candidate for State Attorney General, will attend and speak. A picnic dinner of burgers and dogs and much more is provided. Local and other state Democratic candidates are invited to attend and speak. The public is welcome.

NRA sponsorship dinner at the Yogo


There will be a NRA sponsorship dinner at the Yogo Inn on Aug. 30 at 6 p.m. in the Sapphire room. Dirty dozen and fabulous five tickets will be sold along with Friends of the NRA Sponsorships for the banquet. Any questions please call Jennifer at 366-9037 or Shelly at 366-3694.

The friends of the NRA banquet will be October 6 at the trade center.


Feel the wind beneath your wings with Wind and Strings


Come and dance to the country band, Wind and Strings, on Aug. 27 at the Saturday afternoon dance. The band features Tom Wilson on harmonica, Carole Songer on vocals, Tony Hencil on dobro and Woody Westburg on guitar and vocals.

The dance hall is located at the corner of Third Avenue South and Barnes Street. The dance goes from 2 to 4 p.m. Dancers of all ages are welcome. There will be a coffee/cookie break at 3 p.m. There is a small admission fee. 

Hearing screenings coming to area schools


The Central Montana Learning Resource Center Cooperative will be screening students in Melstone, Roundup, Lavina, Ryegate, Golden Valley Colony, Harlowton, Martinsdale Colony, Deerfield Colony, Duncan Ranch Colony, Judith Gap, Hobson, Stanford, Surprise Creek Colony, Geyser, Moore, King Colony, Spring Creek Colony, Roy, Winifred, Grass Range, Ayers Colony, Denton, Winnett and Lewistown to identify those who may have hearing difficulties.

The screenings will begin the middle of August and will continue until approximately the end of September. All kindergarten, first, and 10th grade students, new students, and students referred by parents and/or school personnel will be screened. Children who do not pass the hearing screening will be rechecked by an audiologist.

American Legion Auxiliary to meet Sept. 8

The American Legion Auxiliary will be meeting Thursday, Sept. 8, at 6 p.m. at the Legion Club, 402 West Main. All members are encouraged to attend to plan the Chokecherry Festival booth and Poker Run. The meeting will also feature a special State Award for a Poppy Poster at 7 p.m., following our meeting. Please help us all congratulate our State of Montana winner.

The Auxiliary will revert to their regular meeting times, the first Tuesday of the month, in October.
