Fergus County commissioners hear request to abandon three roads


The Board of Fergus County Commissioners will hold a regular business meeting on Monday, June 26 at 2 p.m. in the commmissioners’ office on the second floor of the courthouse. 

Items on the agenda include public hearings and possible action on three proposed road abandonments: a section of Everson Road past the gate at Evers Ranch, Cotter Bridge Road and Morris Lane. Also on the agenda is the appointment of Beverly Kinkelaar and Sandy Thompson to the Area II Council on Aging board. 

This meeting is open to the public. 


Fair Board Entertainment Committee to meet Tuesday, June 27


The regular monthly meeting of the Fergus County Fair Board will be held at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 27, in the Trade Center. Items to be discussed include Meet and Greet tickets, plans for MS presentation, advertising, ideas for next year, Clay Walker concert, and any other concerns or ideas.

The public is encouraged to attend.


Square dancers invited to Montgomery Barn


Next Thursday evening, June 29, there will be square dancing at Montgomery’s Barn, starting at 7 p. m. The barn is located four miles up Spring Creek Road, turn right at the Y, and take an immediate right turn to the barn. 

Dancing will be easy level summer dancing and is open to all square dancers.

The next summer dance is scheduled for Thursday, July 13, at 7 p. m. at Utica Hall.


Daines to host teletownhall to discuss Senate health Bill 


U.S. Senator Steve Daines announced he will host his 17th teletownhall Wednesday, June 28, at 6:15 p.m. to discuss the Senate healthcare draft bill with Montanans.

Daines posted the healthcare bill on his website, Facebook and Twitter for Montanans to read. The link to read the bill is .

During the teletownhall, Daines will answer healthcare questions from across Montana.

Daines encourages all Montanans to join his teletownhall by texting “SenatorDaines” (one word) to 828282 or by calling any of Daines’ offices to get registered for the event. Office locations and phone numbers are available here:

Goove to the Gaffers at Saturday dance


The Groovy Gaffers will provide the music for the Saturday Afternoon Dance on June 24. The band features Laurie Lohrer on vocals, and Dave Robertson and Don and Barb Engle on guitars and vocals. The dance goes from 2 to 4 p.m., with a short coffee cookie break at 3 p.m.

If you enjoy dancing to good country music, come and join in the fun. Dancers of all ages are welcome. The club building is located at the corner of Third Ave. S. and Barnes St. 

There is a small admission fee.


Highwood community hosts wildfire meeting


The Bureau of Land Management is hosting a wildfire education meeting on June 28 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Highwood Community Hall.

Members of the BLM, the Chouteau County Disaster and Emergency Services, the Chouteau County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Forest Service will share tips about wildfire preparedness and information about the BLM’s community assistance program. The agencies will also talk about defensible spaces and wildfire evacuations.
