Fair board considers fair, horse show related issues


The Fergus County Fair Board meets Wednesday, July 12 at 5:30 p.m. at the Trade Center. Items on the agenda include committee reports, financial report, fairgrounds report, State 4-H Show equipment usage policy, cement bathroom showers, strategic planning, Fee Committee recommendations, fair programs and tasks, checking account administration, firecrackers, Bingo/gazebo proposal, night show, sponsorships, and Midway security. Two-step and swing to the music of Wind and Strings


Come and dance to the country band, Wind and Strings, today’s afternoon dance. The band features Tom Wilson on harmonica, Carole Songer on vocals, Tony Hencil on dobro and Woodie Westburg on guitar and vocals.

The dance hall is located at the corner of Third Avenue South and Barnes Street. The dance goes from 2-4 p.m. Dancers of all ages are welcome.

There will be a coffee/cookie break at 3 p.m. There is a small admission fee.


Tractor Show and Outdoor Market planned in Ryegate


Montana International Harvester Collectors Chapter 40 will host the Fourth Annual Tractor Show and Outdoor Market in Ryegate, Montana on July 15. Come join the fun and tractor noise from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in the field under the rims. Come to shop and visit the booths, eat, and enjoy the tractor races and games.

The vintage tractor and car parade starts at 2 p.m. The Ryegate Gun Club will have an Open House from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. – watch for signs.

Kids invited for five days of free fun


Central Baptist Church will host two “Five Day Clubs” July 10-14 from 9-10:30 a.m. at Highland Park (corner of Seventh Avenue and Huron Street) and Frank Day Park 1-2:30 p.m.

All kids are invited to join us for five days of free fun for ages 5-12. We will have games, songs, bible lessons, prizes, etc.

County commissioners consider consolidating sheriff and coroner offices


The Fergus County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on consolidation of the offices of Fergus County Coroner and Sheriff at their meeting on Monday, July 10 at 2 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Fergus County Complex in the basement meeting room under the sheriff’s department. 

Following the public hearing, the commissioners may take action on the consolidation of the two County offices. They will also consider appointments to the North Fork Flat Willow Rural Fire board and the Council on Aging board.

The meeting is open to the public.

Creekside Marketplace application up for review


The Lewistown TIF District Board will have a public meeting on Monday, July 10 at 8 a.m. in the SMDC Conference Room, 613 NE Main Street in Lewistown.

Agenda items include: signs update, Creekside Marketplace application review, review of other applications and appointment of budget committee.

This meeting is open to the public.



Utica Hall hosts squaredance


Join caller Jayson Shobe and local squaredancers for a dance at Utica Hall on Thursday, July 13, starting at 7 p.m. Dancing will be easy-level summer dancing, and the event is open to all.


Back Country Horsemen arranges chapter members to cover rodeo gates at the fair


Judith Basin Chapter of Back Country Horsemen of Montana will meet on Wednesday, July 12 at 6:30 p.m. in the lower level of the Sheriff’s Complex. Chapter meetings are usually the first Monday of the month, but due to the July 4 holiday, the July meeting was re-scheduled.

Topping the agenda will be final arrangements for chapter members to cover the rodeo gates at the Fergus Fair on Wednesday, July 25 and Thursday, July 26. Also on the agenda, is planning for a used tack sale booth for the Chokecherry Festival on Saturday, Sept. 9.

Trap and Skeet Club to analyze club income, expenses


The Lewistown Trap and Skeet Club is meeting this Sunday, July 9 at 1 p.m. at the clubhouse at the shooting range on Airport Road.

On the agenda is to review a new membership form and an annual analysis of income and expenses for the club. Trap and skeet shooting and a picnic lunch will follow the meeting. Bring something to share if you wish.

School board meets Monday evening


The Lewistown Public Schools Board of Trustees meets Monday, July 10 at 6 p.m. in the Lincoln building board room, 215 7th Ave. South. Items on the agenda include changes to student handbooks, policy on permission for medication, policy on meal charges, approval for Superintendent Thom Peck to represent the school district on the Board of Directors of the Central Montana Foundation, approval of 2015-2020 board goals and objectives, approval of additions to the substitute list for the 2017-2018 school year and approval of the personnel report. The meeting is open to the public.
