Over 1,400 fish caught during Perch Derby

Winners of the perch derby Travis Scott and Kennie Williams show off a couple of the fish that helped them take top honors.

It was a beautiful Saturday morning as 38 teams from around the state competed for cash and prizes at the Central Montana Perch Derby held at East Fork Reservoir. With great weather came great fishing with over 1,400 fish being caught.
Teams from as far away as Dillon participated and folks were glad to see it back. Catching fish was not the problem it was a matter of finding the right fish.
The derby paid six places with three at the top and three at the bottom with 50 fish. Those who decided to go for 50 fish with the least amount of weight had to work just as hard as those who went for the most weight.
Top honors for the derby went to Travis Scott and Kennie Williams with 18.35lbs; second place Tim Marsh and Rusty South with 15.25lbs; and third place Scott Sundstrom and Neal Rash with 9.9lbs.
Fifty fish least weight went to first place Jess Wagner and Craig wagner with 3.10lbs; second place Chad Sundstrom and Doug Cartwright 3.35lbs; and third place Larry Isom and Josh Culver.
Big Perch award went to the team of Tim Marsh and Rusty South with a weight of 1.45lbs.
Top adult/child of Ben and Aaron Stahl received two St. Croix ice fishing rods.
Mixed Couple of Trice and Sarah Lee earned two Perch Assault rods.
The future is looking bright already for next year as the participants and sponsors are already talking about the event and what it brings to our community in January. Appreciation goes out the all the volunteers and sponsors.
