Patricia Lynn (Hovden) Kalin

Patricia Lynn (Hovden) Kalin passed away peacefully in the early morning of Aug. 9, 2016. She was living at the CMMC Hospice House at the time of her death. Patty suffered from several medical issues that she had been fighting for the past few years. She put up a strong fight and remained independent for as long as her body would allow. She had two rules while living at the Hospice House: no crying and no drama. Patty kept her humor even during her last days of life.

Patty was born on April 7, 1953 in Lewistown to LeRoy Edwin Hovden and Pearl Lillian (Austad) Hovden. Patty was the third of six children to be born into the Hovden household. Her siblings include Dale, Jimmy, Sonja, Sandy, and Tina. She attended school in Lewistown.

She was wed to William Lee Stanton on 1974; together they had two children William (Bill or Billy) and Kelly. They lived in Helena for a few years. After their divorce, Patty moved to Bozeman for some time to raise her children. A few years later in 1986, she gave birth to her youngest child, Britany.

Patty and her family later returned to Lewistown, where all three children graduated from Fergus High School. Patty later remarried Gary Kalin of Lewistown in 1994.

Patty worked many years waiting tables to support her children. Family was very important to Patty. She enjoyed spending time with her brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews each summer over the 4th of July at Pearl’s house. She loved holidays and spending them with her children and grandchildren. You could find Patty’s home carefully decorated for each holiday, Christmas especially.

Patty was an avid scrap booker, as a matter of fact she did not have traditional photo albums, and all of her photos are meticulously kept in at least 20 handmade scrapbooks. While cleaning her home, her family found envelopes of photos in various locations throughout her home. She loved taking pictures at all the family celebrations, and always had her camera in hand.

Patty is survived by her children, Kelly Ann Dengel and Bill (Michele) Stanton, both of Lewistown; grandchildren Taylor (Kylee) Dengel of Kalispell, Shelby Dengel, Kody Dengel, Madison Dengel, Riley Stanton, Tagen McCoy, Peyton McCoy, and Dylan McCoy, all of Lewistown; and great-grandchild Bentley Dengel of Kalispell. She is also survived by her mother, Pearl Lillian Hovden of Lewistown; two brothers, Dale Hovden of Helena and Jimmy Hovden of Lewistown; three sisters, Sonja Shields of Idaho, Sandy (Steve) Goodpaster of Bozeman, and Tina Kelly of Washington; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her best friend, Tucker, a little black schnauzer, who kept her company at home.

Patty is preceded in death by her daughter, Britany Lynn (Hovden) McCoy, whom she tragically lost just a month ago, and her father, LeRoy Edwin Hovden, with whom she had a close bond as a child and missed dearly.

A Celebration of Life has been planned for Patty on Sept. 9, 2016 at 3 p.m. at the Elks Country Club in Lewistown. Patty chose cremation and the spreading of her ashes will take place among family at a later date at the locations of her wishes. Patty requested her celebration to be a party and even requested her children to play specific music for her family to boogie to.
