The Lewistown Retired Senior Volunteer Program has multiple volunteer opportunities in Fergus County and Judith Basin County. One of the benefits RSVP offers volunteers is accident and personal liability insurance at no cost. This service is provided to ensure support, and is effective from the date of enrollment. If you or someone you know would like to enroll with RSVP and join any one of our organizations please contact Jennifer Moody at the Lewistown office, 535-0077.

Volunteer opportunities

• The Central Montana Museum is now open for the summer. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., seven days a week from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The museum is entirely operated through our volunteers. RSVP is currently looking for one to two additional volunteers.

• The Friends of the Library is in need of volunteers to help shelve and organize books on Thursday mornings at the Book Station, located across from the Lewistown Public Library on Main Street.

• The Art Center seeks volunteers, as well as the Lewistown Public Library and the Community Cupboard.

• The Council on Aging is in need of dishwashers for their daily grubstakes meal, and needs help in the office during the lunch hour. This is a crucial service provided in Central Montana, and a meaningful volunteer opportunity.

• The Red Cross is recruiting a Fergus County Disaster Action Team to respond to local emergencies such as house fires, wildfires and floods. Volunteers would serve on an on-call basis to support local agencies and authorities in the relief effort. Services provided may include arranging for emergency food, housing, clothing and transportation, as well as referrals to other resources. Training and support is provided by the Red Cross of Montana.

• ROWL (Recycle Our Waste Lewistown) seeks volunteers to help sort and bale plastics. Even an hour or two a week would make a big difference.

• Valle Vista Healthcare Community is in need of volunteers interested in enriching the lives of nursing home residents through crafts, playing cards, performing music, or whatever talents you may have to share. Just one hour per week to talk, read and listen to a resident who doesn’t receive many visitors is priceless time spent for the both the volunteer and resident. There are many opportunities available.

• The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary is open to female veterans and their spouses. They always welcome new members to assist in various projects and recognitions that benefit veterans throughout the year.

• The Office of Veteran’s Affairs and the Central Montana Fairgrounds are both in need of volunteers to provide clerical support on an as-needed basis.
